This tour is a great daytime activity for families, travellers or anyone who would like to explore the area and try kayaking for the first time. Your trip begins with a safety briefing and a quick paddling tutorial to ensure everyone is ready for the adventure ahead.
Our experienced guides will lead you through the bay, offering insights into the rich maritime history that has shaped this coastal region. You will hear about Pirates, local Chieftains, battles in the area and many other interesting topics.
Nature enthusiasts will delight in the birdwatching opportunities in Castlehaven Bay. The bay is home to a diverse array of birds including Herons, Egrets and Kingfishers. Our guides will help you spot and identify them during the tour.
We use double kayaks, If your group has an odd number, we will pair you up with another visitor or one of our guides will go in a kayak with you. No wetsuits are required. We will give you splash proof jackets to wear over your clothes. Check out our FAQs for advice on what you will need for the tour!

Location: Castlehaven Bay is in West Cork (1.5 hours’ drive from Cork city). We recommend staying locally to avoid driving long distances late at night. You can find a list of local accommodation in our FAQ section. Directions will be provided on booking.

Cost: Adults: €60 pp using double kayaks
Junior (12 yr – 18 yr) €50 pp
Duration: 2.5 hours total time (approx. 2 hours on the water).
Minimum age: 12
Difficulty level: Beginner friendly, all necessary safety equipment, kayaking equipment and instruction is provided.

To respect the privacy of our clients we ask people not to take recording equipment out on the kayaks please. We have a no alcohol policy for the safety and enjoyment of all, this includes prior consumption.
If you feel unwell or have come into contact with a case or suspected case of COVID-19, please reschedule or cancel your trip.
Our first priority as always, is the health and safety of our guests and staff. We have comprehensive procedures in place for Covid-19.

Please be on time (not early) for your trip! If you are more than 20 minutes late for your trip, you will not be able to join the trip.
Directions to Reen Pier from Union Hall:
Go to the Catholic Church in Union Hall and follow the sign for Reen Pier (2miles). About 200m before Pier turn right at the Atlantic Sea Kayaking sign and go to the end of the sand spit where we will meet you.

Toilet Facilities:
Please note that the last toilet facilities are in Union Hall. There are portaloos at the location.
Suggested clothing:
Comfortable outdoor clothing such as fleece/tracksuit, soft shoes, perhaps a hat and a drink of water. We supply waterproof gear.
Cancellation Policy:
- If you need to cancel your trip, please be sure to let us know at least 3 days in advance via email (or by phone during office hours). We will reschedule your trip as availability allows. Without 3 days notice and in the event of not showing up, the full amount will be charged to your card.
- For groups of 6 or more we require two weeks notice via email.
- Rain will not postpone the tour, but occasionally we have to cancel due to strong winds. As forecasts are changeable we do not make our final decision re: cancellation until the previous day or morning of the tour. We will text, email or call you with this information to the contact details you supplied at time of booking. Following a cancellation by us, you will be reimbursed or may choose to rebook for another date. We reserve the right to cancel tours without prior notice for safety reasons, this could be due to a sudden change in weather conditions.
